Life Training, formerly known as ‘Ability-Counselling and Training’, provides Counselling, Forensic Social Work and Art Therapy. It is based in Maryborough, and offered one day per week in Hervey Bay, Queensland. It was born from an identified gap in support services to those with mental health issues after coming out of custodial sentences, and their families, however has expanded to provide therapeutic services to the community.
About the Founder
Over the past 25 years I have worked in various roles in differing Human Services organisations. I strived to improve the impact of crime on others, developing and implementing policies where police refer victims and offenders to support agencies.
I have achieved recognition by way of Awards, for my work with reintegration of offenders into the community, and working innovatively with those at risk of offending. This was able to be achieved through effective stakeholder engagements, allowing recognition of prisoners by the community for their fundraising for the Cancer Council Relay for Life (as participants within the prison), and the development and implementation of an animal therapy program which targeted emotion dysregulation, domestic violence, anger and depression, anti-social behaviours, trauma, substance abuse, and mental health disorders like schizophrenia.
My focus for the past few years has been in the community - working with individuals, and researching for projects to assist clients holistically at a community level.
Life Training commenced in Far North Queensland in 2015. I have moved the business to Maryborough, and Hervey Bay, whilst continuing to support those in the Cairns and Tablelands regions.
